My Job Is To Serve The Message (That's YOUR Job Too!)

Welcome to almost a year without big live speaking events as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. It’s been challenging for so many people but more so for those whose livelihood depends on the gathering of people around stages both large and small.

My heart goes out to all the magnificently talented musicians, speakers, actors and other performers who have had to lean way in to their creativity and the power of the internet and technology to stay connected and in action and devotion to their gifts, talents, skills, purpose and mission.

My Job Is To Serve The Message

That’s what a trusted advisor
told me
That’s it.
All I have to do.
Be The TALENT and
Serve The Message

So today I write.
Because this is the way
the message is asking
to be served today.
Tomorrow
I may speak.
Next weekend
I may paint.

This Tuesday?
This Tuesday
I will SURELY Dance!
Because my job
is simply, easily, delightfully
and always
WHOLEHEARTEDLY
To Serve The Message

Leveraging the power of Virtual Speaking has been my jam for years - and I’m so grateful that I had already developed a structure and web of connections so that when all the stages that I lined up at the beginning of 2020 (THE YEAR I’M GOING ON THE ROAD!! Ha Ha - Universe you had the last laugh on that one!) suddenly disappeared - I was fortunate to be able to re-calibrate within a few months and re-ignite my old Virtual Speaking Model - which coincidentally I was planning on going out on the road to teach!

It took a bit of time of course for all of us to “pivot”. And to let go of and lay aside plans made in favor of reality we all were facing. Did my business revenue SIGNIFICANTLY decrease? You betcha. Did I have some serious moments of panic - and more specifically “financial panic” - uh huh. And did I find my way to a new way borrowing on some of my old tried and true techniques to restructure how my year would unfold and align with a whole new landscape of people finding themselves “suddenly working from home” - yes I did.

What did I learn in the last year?

First off - your relationships and web of connections along with your own ability to create and conceive of new ways to face novel challenges are WAY more valuable and important than “sticking to the plan”. When Corona hit one of the FIRST things I did was pay my entire team (on credit!) in advance for 3 months because even though I didn’t exactly know what I was going to be doing to get re-aligned to be generating revenue again I DID know that my team and the public service that I provide with my podcast were valuable assets to keep fueled and in motion.

Secondly - that when things go really chaotic the single most important thing you can do is SIMPLIFY and CLARIFY so that you are MOST EFFICIENTLY, EFFECTIVELY & ENJOYABLY utilizing what my friend, colleague and client Ali Katz calls your T.E.A.M. (Time, Energy, Attention, Money) Assets. To that end I’ve cut out a whole lot of extraneous stuff I was occupying myself with and honed in on how full to overflowing I can focus on making my “Wealthy Life Resources” - Time, Health, Imagination, Energy Exchange ($), Fun

Finally I learned/remembered that BEING THE TALENT - or another way of putting it is “BEING THE CHANNEL” for the message and SERVING THE MESSAGE is my greatest contribution and gift and that the more I remember that and remain committed to maintaining my own highest joy, wellbeing and clarity the better it gets. And as one of my show guests shared with me - “The Better It Gets The Better It Gets”.

I’m cautiously optimistic that we will all come out of this pandemic wiser and in wonder at the magic of creation to make us look at what we must in order to make the changes we are here to make in our own life and in the world.
