[Poetry] Willing to Wait

Are you willing

to wait for the first ears of corn

to be ready for picking

Their golden kernels bursting

with the juicy flavor

of liquid sunshine turned

to sweet elixir that

lights up your mouth?

Are you willing

To wait for the sound

of the footsteps on the

staircase signalling

the arrival of your child

coming in late at night?

Are you willing

to wait with an open heart

and an easy mind

for the beloved to appear

like the dawning of the sun

on a summer morning

peeking through the mist

above the mountain stream?

Are you willing

to wait with the patience

of JOB as your elder parent

struggled to give up the ghost

and let go of all the grievances

carried & stubbornly fed to justify

her existence and receive the

love and attention she so

ravenously craves?

Are you willing

To wait on the success that

continues to elude as you

rumble and stumble on what

you once believed was your

purposeful path?

Remember, like magic

the winter turns to spring

the flowers re-blossom

the birds always sing

The golden kernels are

guaranteed as the Earth

gently rotates and nurtures

the seeds

Just be willing and all

will be well

the wait is quite worth it

I’m here to tell.

For when you are willing

one thing you will see

is the gold in the journey

from point A to point B

when you

are willing to wait.
